What is a search engine?

A search engine is a web based program which is accessed via the internet. This program searches through the internet and creates indices from text contained on the website which are then indexed by their keywords.

During todays tutorial we were asked to do monash university's interactive tutorial on direcoties and search engines and to do an online quiz.

a.
4 stratagies that will help structure a good search are
1. Create a search strategy, and decide before hand what your looking for.
2. Use boolean terms like And, So and or to aid your search.
3. Use keywords phrases when searching
4. Search based on concepts.

b.
Stratagies that Iused to find answers are using key words and boolean, using inverted commas as well as knowing what information specifically i am looking for.Using these factors narrows my search criteria giving me information that is specific to my research as well as information i can use.

c.
In conclusion this weeks topic helps me search for information more specifically and teches me that there is information out there but it all depends in what ways we type in our search to what inforamation we recieve.
